Runaway Luna is more than just a café and boutique; it’s a true family story built on resilience, connection, and a love for all things fresh, fabulous, and unique.
Founded in November 2019 by mother-daughter duo Cathy and Hanna, Runaway Luna has been a labor of love from day one. Based in the Hill Country of Austin, we are true locals, having settled in nearby Spicewood. We’ve weathered the storms – from surviving the pandemic to enduring Texas ice storms and even relocating within the Galleria – all while keeping our doors open as a safe haven for the community.
From the very beginning, our mission has been simple: create a space where people can slow down, connect, and feel at home. During Covid, we opened daily not just to serve coffee, but also to give families, kids, and our cherished elderly regulars a sense of normalcy and comfort. Today, that same energy flows through everything we do – from the smiles behind the counter to the long brunches shared between friends, new moms connecting over lattes, and local neighbors stopping in to say hello.
Runaway Luna is a one-of-a-kind hybrid concept: part café, part boutique, always full of heart. On the café side, you’ll find the best smashed avocado in town, inspired by Hanna’s years living in Australia and her background in world-class dining. This includes experience from Michelin-starred restaurants in Toronto, the number one cocktail bar in Canada, and various hospitality ventures in New York and Australia. On the boutique side, every piece tells a story – from hand-selected vintage treasures sourced both locally and abroad, to candles from small family makers in the Carolinas, handcrafted jewelry from Florida, and pottery from Pennsylvania artisans. The shop is ever-changing, always offering something special to gift, take home, or remember your travels by.
We also believe in gathering people together. Whether it’s hosting your next bachelorette brunch, birthday celebration, or a cozy team meeting, Runaway Luna is the perfect backdrop. Our seasonal workshops – from our legendary Charcuterie Boards in the fall to Vision Board sessions in January – are all about fostering creativity, conversation, and connection.
Beyond the café, our family’s love for food, travel, and design continues to grow. Cathy brings her eye for interiors and vintage styling to every corner of the space, while Hanna balances running the café with exploring art, cinema, and Austin’s hill country trails with her Border Collie, Norman. Together, we’ve recently expanded to launch Runaway Luna Retreats on Australia’s Sunshine Coast – a natural extension of our mission to create beautiful spaces for people to connect, unwind, and feel inspired.
